With Slammiversary only days away, the iMPACT! Zone became a preview for what is sure to go down as one of the most emotionally intense Pay-Per-Views in TNA Wrestling history.
The night kicked off with a match that pitted four of the five competitors that will be competing this Sunday in the King of the Mountain match. It was the team of two former TNA World Heavyweight Champions, Christian Cage and Rhino, taking on the two men who have their own bitter past, Booker T and Robert Roode.
Going into the match, no one was sure that Booker and Roode would be able to co-exist. However, the two superstars were able to put their differences aside and for a long time kept Christian Cage isolated from making the tag in to Rhino. Working as a well oiled machine, Booker and Roode had the match going their way, using the method of quick tags. Finally, Cage was able to get the tag in, and Rhino showed why he is not a man to be taken lightly. After spearing Booker, it looked like he was going to pick up the win, had it not been from interference from Team 3D. As things were beginning to look bad for Rhino and Cage, out came AJ Styles. Much to the dismay of everyone in the iMPACT! Zone, Styles had come to Cage's aid much like he had tried to do for AJ the week before.
After clearing the ring, AJ said he hoped that he and Cage could once again be on the same page since at one time they had been like brothers. He then went on to say that at Slammiversary he was going to, "Beat the @#$% out of Kurt." One thing is for sure, AJ didn't seem to care if he won or lost as long as he hurt Kurt. He said he was going to start tonight by beating Tomko. Just as he was mid sentence, TNA management, Jim Cornette, came down and made Kevin Nash the special enforcer in that match, insuring that AJ got his fair shot against Tomko.
Earlier in the day, Jeremy Borash had caught up with TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Samoa Joe. He questioned him on whether he trusted Kevin Nash as the special enforcer this Sunday. Joe told JB that he would be talking with Nash at iMPACT! and they would see from there.
The Beautiful People were at it again, harassing backstage interviewer, Lauren. Velvet Sky said that there was no way she was going to lose to ODB or "Old Dirty Butch" in their Knockouts Street Fight. The Beautiful People said that although they may be beautiful, they will fight dirty.
In a match that turned into an all out brawl, ODB and Velvet Sky at one point found themselves fighting through the crowd. In the end, ODB's size and strength proved to be too much for Velvet Sky even after Angelina Love tried to interfere.
Although ODB may have gotten the victory, it was once again the beautiful people who had the last laugh. Attacking ODB after the match, both Gail Kim and Roxxi came out to try and help ODB. However, Love and Sky had an "ugly" trick up their sleeves, as an unknown woman ran into the ring and helped take out all three women. From there, the new muscle of the beautiful people helped Angelina and Velvet Sky put a brown bag on Gail Kim's head. Hopefully this rivalry can be put to rest this Sunday when ODB, Gail Kim, and Roxxi take on the beautiful people and their new muscle.
Throughout the night, scenes from Jay Lethal's bachelor party are shown. Many of the TNA talent are there having a good time. At one point Sonjay promises that he has something big to tell Jay at Slammiversary. Furthermore, many past legends will be joining in on Jay's wedding. On a more disturbing note from the bachelor party, and much to the disgust of many of the people there, including singer Ace Young, Sonjay had hired Kip James to strip, and was seen putting dollars in his pants.
One person who was not at the bachelor party was Eric Young, this is because he was still on his quest to find Elvis. With time running out, Eric left a ticket at Graceland for the king.
It was time for preview number two of things to come this Sunday at the Pay-Per-View. A shot at the TNA Heavyweight Championship was on the line as some of the X-Division's finest joined together for the first ever King of the Mountain X-Division match on iMPACT! In a match that saw Kaz, Curry Man, Johnny Devine, Jimmy Rave, and Chris Sabin pull out all the stops, it was Kaz who walked out victorious. Words can't describe some of the high risk and incredible moves that took place during this match. (If you missed it, make sure to watch the iMPACT! replay on Spike this Saturday night. This is not a match to miss.)
Kaz now holds a large portion of the TNA landscape in the palm of his hand. He is now the number one contender for the TNA Heavyweight Title and has a match this Sunday at Slammiversary for the X-Division Championship. After next week, Kaz could be a multiple title holder. However, as far as Scott Steiner and Petey Williams are concerned, he has no chance to win this Sunday and they made that clear on iMPACT!
This week in her open challenge, Kong faced a little bit of a tougher breed of challenger. The woman who was selected from the crowd was former WCW member, Daffney who has been wrestling on the independent circle. Still, she too proved no match for Awesome Kong. Kong picked up the win after another devastating Awesome Bomb.
One question that has been shoved to the fore front of everyone's mind is, will Abyss be at Slammiversary? This week more disturbing footage was shown of him muttering about three days.
Backstage, tensions were running high between Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe. Although Nash assures Joe that he has always done right by him, there is lingering animosity between the two.
In a three way tag match, "Cowboy" James Storm, Lance Hoyt, and Kip James took on Matt Morgan and LAX. The most dominating force in the match was the "genetically staked" seven footer, Matt Morgan. He dominated the entire match for his team and although at some points it looked like Lance Hoyt was able to match size and power with him, it was Morgan with the help of LAX who picked up the win, after pinning Kip James.
In a saddening display, TNA fans saw Karen Angle tell Kurt that she loved him and was crushed because Kurt never gave her the time of day and always put his career before her and their kids. Kurt, however saw nothing wrong with his actions and continued to blame Karen for having cheated on him with AJ. Still he had yet to show proof of this. Furthermore, Kurt said Karen is nothing but ungrateful. As a way to get back at her, he promised to break AJ this Sunday.
AJ was about to begin his path to gaining revenge as he was set to take on Tomko. Kevin Nash was out to insure there was no interference. Even before the opening bell, AJ went flying over the top ropes sending Tomko crashing to the floor. It was apparent in this match that the old, happy go lucky AJ Styles was no more. He had been replaced by a new hell bent on revenge AJ. The match was pretty much all AJ. Every time it looked like Tomko was going to get in some offense, AJ kept coming back for more. Even after Robert Roode and Booker T tried to interfere, only to be stopped by "Big Sexy", AJ still picked up the win. Afterwards all hell broke out in the ring. Booker nailed Nash with a vicious chair shot, causing Rhino and Christian Cage to come down to the ring. They were soon followed by LAX and Team 3D all the men were brawling in the ring. Not wanting to be left out, Joe got involved as well. In the end though, he was holding Booker T so Nash could hit him with a chair, Booker ducked at the last second causing Nash to nail Joe with the chair instead. Clearly a mistake, Nash went to help Joe up, only to be pushed away by the champ as iMPACT! went off the air.
It is clear that there are many questions that need to be answered about loyalties, and many grudges that need to be settled. Hopefully some of them, if not all will be answered this Sunday, as TNA celebrates its six year anniversary in Memphis live on Pay-Per-View.
